Magdalena de Kino Day Trip
Step beyond the headlines and discover one of northern Mexico's most meaningful cultural destinations.
Perfect for: History lovers • Mission enthusiasts • Cultural travellers • First-time visitors to Sonora
Join Borderlandia on a day trip to Magdalena de Kino, a designated Pueblo Mágico where history, faith, and tradition have converged for more than three centuries.
Each year, thousands of pilgrims from across Mexico and the United States journey here in honour of San Francisco Xavier, making Magdalena one of the most important spiritual crossroads of the Arizona–Sonora borderlands. Experience the vibrant atmosphere of this remarkable town and discover the stories that continue to unite Indigenous, Mexican, and American communities.
One of the tour's highlights is an exclusive visit to the crypt of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino, where you'll stand before the earthly remains of the legendary Jesuit missionary, explorer, cartographer, and diplomat whose legacy forever shaped the borderlands.
We'll also visit Mission San Ignacio de Caborica, one of Kino's earliest and most beautiful mission churches, founded in the late 17th century and still serving its community today.
Along the way, you'll stroll Magdalena's charming historic centre, admire colourful murals that celebrate Sonora's rich heritage, browse local artisan shops, and enjoy authentic regional cuisine with both breakfast and lunch included.
This isn't just a day trip—it's an opportunity to experience the history, culture, and hospitality that make the Sonoran borderlands unlike anywhere else.
