Sonora’s Bacanora Route Fall 2026

from $1,400.00

Join us for an immersive journey into the heart of Sonora's bacanora country and discover the people, traditions, and landscapes behind one of Mexico's most distinctive spirits. This special itinerary (featured in National Geographic) takes you deep into the Sierra Madre communities of La Colorada, Suaqui Grande, and Yecora, where bacanora production remains a living cultural tradition.

Departing from Nogales and based in Hermosillo, Sonora's vibrant capital, we'll spend our first and final nights enjoying the city's dynamic culinary and cultural scene. On our second day, we travel east into the Sierra Madre to explore the roots of agave culture in northwestern Mexico at its source. That evening, we'll stay in the mountain town of Yecora, in the pine forests separating Chihuahua and Sonora.

Along the way, you'll meet the families and producers who keep this tradition alive, visit three working distilleries (vinatas), learn about every stage of the production process, and participate in guided tastings. You'll also enjoy regional cuisine, explore scenic mountain landscapes, and gain a deeper appreciation for the Denomination of Origin region that gives bacanora its unique character.
